Ordinary Mind, Teachings on the Third Karmapa's Aspiration of Mahamudra With Venerable Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche Where & When: Tergar Ösel Ling, Kathmandu, Nepal March 7 – 10, 2018 (9AM~5PM). **Tergar Asia Registration link(start on 8/1/2018 at 8:00PM): hk.tergarasia.org/event-register.php?code=WW.20180307OM
Awakening is something we can discover for ourselves through the practice of meditation. In Tibetan Buddhism, the most direct and powerful way to experience this inner freedom is by exploring the nature of awareness, a journey that puts us in touch with a source of equanimity, wisdom, and compassion that we can access anytime and anywhere. In these teachings, Mingyur Rinpoche will offer instructions on the nature of mind drawn from the Mahamudra teachings, a profound lineage that originated in ancient India. In particular, he will teach The Aspiration of Mahamudra, a short text written by the Third Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje. This text – one of the most treasured teachings in the Kagyu lineage – captures the essential points of the view, meditation, and application of Mahamudra practice. Mingyur Rinpoche will offer two sessions each day that are open to anyone interested in Buddhist study and practice. These sessions will focus on the general approach to Mahamudra meditation presented in The Aspiration of Mahamudra. Rinpoche will also offer a third session each day that will provide the transmissions needed to begin formal Buddhist practice in the Tergar Community, including “pointing out” teachings on the nature of mind, refuge vows (the vows to formally enter the Buddhist path), and the transmissions to begin practicing the Path of Liberation. The third sessions are only open to those who meet at least one of the Path of Liberation Track 1 criteria (see below).
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for the first two teaching sessions each day. Due to the focus on traditional Tibetan Buddhist teachings, however, the program may be better suited for those with some experience of meditation. For the third teaching session in the afternoon, there are prerequisites. Participants must meet the Path of Liberation Track 1 prerequisites, which means having at least one of the following criteria: Have attended all three Joy of Living Levels, Calming the Mind (Level 1), Opening the Heart (Level 2), and Awakening Wisdom (Level 3), and completed the associated practice.
Requirements : Have received pointing out teachings from a qualified Buddhist lineage holder (a Tulku or Rinpoche) Have completed the full preliminary practices (the 4 x 100,000 ngöndro) Have had a daily meditation practice for at least five years and attended either group or solitary practice retreats (with 6+ hours of formal meditation practice each day) under the guidance of a Buddhist teacher for a total of at least thirty days.
