The Origins…

In 2008 Venerable Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche kindly gave the permission to establish the Hong Kong Yongey Bodhi Institute. The aim of the establishment was to enhance the practice of people in Kong Kong amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life through the teachings of Rinpoche so that they could reunite with their original purity.

In 2010, the establishment advanced one step forward and renamed itself as ‘Tergar Meditation Centre Hong Kong’ and since then it has been the headquarters of Mingyur Rinpoche’s meditation centres in Asia. Its role is to coordinate the meditation centres in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, and Japan and ensure that the various centres synchronize with the Tergar meditation headquarters in the U.S. in the process of making meditation teachings available to the local people. Tergar Hong Kong is also responsible for standardizing the official documents used for pujas and other practice occasions.

The objectives of Tergar Meditation Centre Hong Kong:

‘To hear’ about the teachings in Buddhist scriptures; to enhance the right view through Mahayana and Vajrayana practices (holding Dharma workshops and discussion groups).

‘To contemplate’ – Shamatha and Vipassana meditation practices; realization of prajna (holding regular meditation practice sessions)

‘To practice’ – to benefit oneself and others; follow the path of the bodhisattvas (actively participating in community educational programmes).

‘To realize’ – loving kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity – manifestations of bodhicitta (putting practice in everyday life; attaining joy of living)
